เมื่อค่ำวันที่ 1 ธันวาคม 2551 ที่ผ่านมานี้หลายท่านคงได้เห็นปรากฏการณ์ทางดาราศาสตร์ที่น่าสนใจ (ส่วนหนึ่งน่าจะเพราะเห็นได้ด้วยตาเปล่า) และเห็นได้จากหลายจุดทั้งในเมืองและต่างจังหวัด หลายท่านได้โทรศัพท์มาหาผม (และสมาชิกในครอบครัวท่านอื่น ๆ ด้วย) เพราะอยากให้ออกไปดูด้วยตาตนเอง แต่ช้าไปครับ เพราะตอนที่ผมรับสายนั้นก็ถ่ายรูปเสร็จเรียบร้อยแล้ว
On the deep dusk and beginning of night on 2008-12-01, many people would have sighted a notable astronomical phenomenon, be it from the city or upcountry. Many people have phoned me (and other family members) to watch it with our own eyes, but too late - I've already took the photographs when they called.

The sight was a nice arrangement of Venus, the Moon, and Jupiter, in a form like a smiling human face.
บางคนเรียกสิ่งนี้ว่าจันทร์ยิ้ม บางคนบอกว่ามันคือ Earthshine บางคนบอกว่ามันเป็นลางถึงความวุ่นวายของบ้านเมือง (แต่ผมว่าดาวอังคารต่างหากที่ทำให้บ้านเมืองวุ่นวาย) แต่จริง ๆ แล้วคำว่า Earthshine ไม่ได้หมายความถึงวันนี้เพียงวันเดียว หมายความว่าอย่างไร?!
Some call this "Smiling Moon", some call it "Earthshine", some foretell chaos of the nation (but I think Mars has more effect!). But in reality, "Earthshine" doesn't mean only this night. How do I mean, you ask?
จริง ๆ แล้ว Earthshine นี้เกิดขึ้นได้เป็นปกติในช่วงแรม 12-14 ค่ำ และช่วงข้างขึ้น 1-3 ค่ำ โดยเกิดจากแสงของดวงอาทิตย์สะท้อนโลกทำให้เกิดแสงสว่างบนดวงจันทร์ขึ้นมา แสงเรื่อ ๆ ที่เราเห็นจึงเป็นแสงของโลกด้านที่เป็นกลางวันสะท้อนใส่ดวงจันทร์
Actually, Earthshine can occur normally on nearly-new or just after new moons. Sunlight reflects off the day part of Earth and hits Moon's surface, illuminating it.
